Ponderosa Steakhouse Logo Ponderosa Steakhouse is an all you can eat buffet with a difference.

When you enter, you decide what you want to eat as the main meal. They offer a steak for $9.99 which we ordered, expecting a tiny and/or fatty steak to arrive.

The decor is in need of some modernisation, especially in the queue area. Whilst it doesn't look bad or dirty, it looks tired and dated.

The Meal

We paid and were shown to our seats (padded benches with space for two either side of the table). Our waiter bought over drinks and some garlic bread. He explained that the steak would be with us shortly and we could help ourselves to the buffet.

The choice of food is amazing! They have got everything from pasta to meatballs, salad to dessert. We picked up a few salad items (a full plate) and headed back to our table. We polished that off along with the bread.

Our waiter then brought out a plate with a good sized steak (a good 5 inches long, 3 inches wide and 1 inch deep), a stack of chips and a bowl of onions and mushrooms as ordered. The steak was perfectly cooked, tasty and juicy. It had no traces of fat or gristle, fell apart when cutting and was very tender.

We struggled to finish the meal off (we managed though!) and went back to the buffet for dessert.

We were then given a discount voucher (10%) for our next lunch or dinner as well as a handful of mints which we polished off as we walked back to the hotel across the road (Holiday Inn).

The Service

The service was excellent. Our waiter couldn't do enough for us. He bought out extra drinks, extra bread and even replaced a straw when his sleeve touched it as he leaned over the table. He was very professional and helpful.

Would We Go Again?

Most certainly. In hind sight, we should have gone there for a breakfast buffet rather than The Waffle House but the problem with hindsight is that it doesn't warn beforehand!

From memory, the breakfast buffet is around $4 a head.
