A visit to the world's biggest McDonald's is a must in Orlando. This two
storey McDonald's boasts a huge play area for kids full of slides, tubes and
games.
The layout of the restaurant was confusing and could benefit from a redesign. As you enter, you'll find a seating area to your right. You'll also find a Bistro Gourmet area although this isn't where you place your order.
Head further into McDonalds, passing the self-service drinks machines (unlimited refills) to the left. beyond this is the general seating area as well as the play area. To the right you'll find order desks. Queue at these and place your order. If you order a Gourmet Bistro item (like we did), you'll be given a handheld alarm that sounds when your order is ready (ours didn't sound). You then proceed to join another queue to pay and collect your fried items (chips).
Surprisingly this isn't advertised on their website although the promotional booklets we collected whilst in Orlando had the occasional advert for it. (UPDATE: Scanned 2008 menu). We had a voucher for $1 off but I forgot to use that in the confusion of placing an order.
We opted for gourmet sandwich value meals which consisted of a filled sub roll, fries and soft drinks.
The sub was gigantic. Mine was filled with large meatballs and a tomato sauce (I had to see why Joey loves them so much). The other half's sandwich was filled with spicy (piri-piri style) chicken. The chicken was extremely spicy and to us was more or less inedible. The meatballs were delicious though although it was physically impossible to eat the sub without cutting these in half - my mouth's not that big :-)
The fries were identical to British McDonald's fries with the exception that there was way too much salt on them.
The Coke also tasted very weak. American Coca Cola and Diet Coke tastes different to British versions by the way.
For two sub meals (with fries and soft drink), the cost was around $15 including tax
