Floridays Resort, International Drive Hotel Review

An exquisite hotel at the bottom end of International Drive. Ideal for couples and families who prefer to have peaceful, plush surroundings with easy access to International Drive, Lake Buena Vista and Walt Disney World.

The reception area is recessed five minutes walk from the main road due to their current renovation work. When we heard the word "renovation", we had visions of a terrible stay. Contrary to this, we never heard or saw any building work whatsoever.

Floridays Entrance

The reception area was incredibly posh although we had been fooled at Holiday Inn by this. We were given a key card to room 508 in Block C.

Room C508

When we say room, we mean self contained suite! It was like being home from home only with more space, a better view and much better weather!

The suite was very long. You entered with the kitchen on your right hand side. The kitchen was fully equipped with washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, as well as various appliances and a full set of crockery, cutlery pots and pans. A breakfast bar with stools separated the kitchen from the rest of the room.

To the left was the second bedroom. It contained two beds, closet space and a TV.

A dining table could be found after the breakfast bar, with the main bathroom to the left of this. The bathroom contained a bath, toilet and sink.

Further down the room was the lounge area with sofas with a giant flat screen TV, DVD and VCR. This opened out onto the balcony.

To the left of the living room was the master bedroom with a massive bed, TV and futon. The en-suite bathroom contained a toilet, sink, Jacuzzi bath (big enough for two - tried and tested!) and self contained shower cubicle.

Amenities

There are several pools on-site, all varying in popularity amongst guests.

There's a bar, cafe and small deli on-site so it is feasible to remain on-site in the evenings without going hungry. Each apartment has a fully equiped kitchen and there's a Publix supermarket 15 minutes walk away so if you wanted a quiet night in, you can!

Our Review

We were extremely impressed with this hotel. The staff were all kind and very helpful. The apartments are well built (we didn't hear our neighbours at all) and well furnished.

The location is right on the bottom tip of International Drive making it an ideal base for those who wish to explore North as well as South.

It's well away from restaurants so you'll need to travel a bit to get food off-site although there is an I-Ride bus stop outside the entrance and there is free parking on-site.

Bear in mind there is a $5 to $10 local tax applied to each room each nigh you stay. If you book direct the fee is $10 but if you book through an agent, it is $5. We were warned in advance by Sunshine but the woman who checked out moments before we did wasn't told by her agent so it came as a bit of a surprise to her.
